Chez Sibert lies on the boundary between the Charente-Maritime and Charente départements. This gives an excellent opportunity to visit both areas.
Saintes is a charming old town with cobbled streets, modern shops and roman ruins. It has a market every day, theatre, cinema and a tourist office for the Charente-Maritime. Cognac is famous for its distilleries and is also a lovely place to visit for shops, cafés, museums and a tourist office for the Charente.
The local region provides something for all interests for example; kayaking on the river, or climbing through the trees at Fontdouce; cycling through local lanes; walks along two of the national long distance footpaths - GR4 and GR360; the history and cultural development of the Saintes area from well before roman times; the famous cognac business and tasting tours; a lively music scene including the annual Cognac jazz festival; the world championship motocross at St Jean d’Angely; Haras National de Saintes (national breeding stables) and the unique Poitou Charente donkey; not forgetting the fine restaurants throughout the area.
The nearest coast is only 40kms, providing magnificent sandy beaches. The thriving historic port of La Rochelle, regional capital of Charente-Maritime, and bustling city of Angouleme, the regional centre of Charente, are both about an hour away.
